In this video Bill Hart describes highlights from the second bookshelf featuring his “Smoky Mountain Heroes.”
Some of the materials discussed include seminal works on hiking in the Smokies by Paul Fink, the works of Horace Kephart and an overview of his life, a discussion of the life and importance of photographer George Masa to the Great Smokies, and a mention of Hart’s article about Masa in the 1997 book May We All Remember Well : A Journal of the History & Cultures of Western North Carolina. Bill also highlights various works in the Collection about Cataloochee and provides insight on some of the Great Smokes ephemera in the Collection.
This video was filmed in the Hart’s personal library prior to donating the collection to UNC Asheville’s Special Collections. The books in the Bill and Alice Hart Collection are shelved in the same order as in the Hart’s marvelous personal library.
