Historical Information

The AAUW Asheville was founded in 1915, and has focused on addressing issues that are important to supporting the needs of women and girls in Asheville and beyond. In order to do this, they promote education, improve knowledge of community needs in branch programs and committees, support STEM activities with middle school girls, collaborate with institutions of higher learning, and financially contribute to college/university scholarships for women whose education has been delayed or interrupted. As a nonpartisan organization, they advocate with lawmakers in advancing the rights and economic security of women and girls. (paraphrased from the AAUW website, November 2023).
