In this video Bill Hart describes highlights from the fifth bookshelf in his personal library. This shelf includes works about Western North Carolina and institutions, such as schools, churches, and industries.
Included are histories of Black Mountain College, Carolina Power & Light, Mars Hill University, Berea College, UNC Asheville, as well as various works about Bill and Alice Hart’s alma mater, Western Carolina University. This shelf also includes books about medicine and hospitals, logging, lumber companies, textile mills, Methodism in Western North Carolina, the Farmers’ Federation, the 1916 flood in WNC, and railroads.
This video was filmed in the Hart’s personal library prior to donating the collection to UNC Asheville’s Special Collections. The books in the Bill and Alice Hart Collection are shelved in the same order as in the Hart’s marvelous personal library.
