Scope and Contents
This collection mainly focuses on efforts at UNC Asheville to increase diverse enrollment and on efforts in the local area to bring up issues with the African American community, such as underrepresentation in history, urban renewal, and more. Documents in this collection deal with African American issues at UNCA and the local Asheville area, including statistics on Minority enrollment, suggestions for increasing diversity by the Chancellor’s Diversity task force, correspondence between members of the task force, files for upcoming projects and the outcomes of those projects, and plans for the greater Asheville black community. This collection plays an important role for any study of UNCA’s diversity, by looking at the racial statistics pulled for the committee, recommendations made by the committee, actions taken by school leadership, and the effect on UNCA and its racial makeup, This collection is crucial to anyone studying UNCA’s racial history or the work of Dr. Mullen and his associates in Asheville.
